In the state of Mississippi, medical marijuana can only be purchased from licensed dispensaries. This patient registry can be used by Mississippi residents who have a medical condition that qualifies for the Mississippi medical marijuana program.
Once an application for medical marijuana use in Mississippi has been approved by your medical marijuana doctor, the state will typically issue a Mississippi medical marijuana card. Mississippi’s legal marijuana cardholders have access to a large selection of marijuana products in Mississippi dispensaries, including flower, tinctures, edibles, vapes, topicals and high-THC oil concentrates.
In February 2022, when medical marijuana in Mississippi became legal the limit was set that any patient may purchase up to 3 ounces of medical cannabis per month. While 3 ounces is the legal limit, the maximum amount of “Medical Cannabis Equivalency Units” (MCEUs) that can be legally possessed or purchased is 3.5 grams of flower, up to 100 mg of THC in infused products, and up to one gram of concentrate per person. Only six MCEUs (21 grams, or less than 3/4 ounce) may be purchased by patients each week. Patients are not allowed to buy more than 24 MCEUs in a month (84 grams, which is less than 3 ounces). Patients can only have a total of 28 MCEUs at any given point in time (98 grams, which is less than 3.5 ounces).
THC concentrations in flower cannot go higher than 30%. There is a limit of 60% for tinctures, oils, and concentrates.
In Mississippi, a written certification from a qualified medical marijuana doctor is required to obtain medical marijuana for patients. Except where stated otherwise, the certification is valid for one year. Patients between the ages of 18-23 typically requires written certifications from two separate practitioners from two separate medical practices in order to qualify. (There is an exception for those who registered before the age of 18 and those who are homebound.)
To get a registry identification card from Mississippi’s Department of Health, a patient must first obtain certification from the state.
